Thomas Tomlinson was baptised at St Chad, Lichfield on 14.4.1799. His parents were William & Elizabeth Tomlinson.

Children

Anne Tomlinson 1821 –

William Tomlinson 1823 – 1829

Thomas Tomlinson 1827 – 1848

Harriet Tomlinson 1831 –

Jesse Tomlinson 1833 – 1894

David Tomlinson 1837 –

Joseph Tomlinson 1840 –

William Tomlinson 1843 – 1930 (Married Louisa Hall)

Judith & Thomas lived at Wickhamford for the rest of their lives. Thomas was a labourer. Judith’s brother Joseph also lived with them until his death. They were tenants of Lord Sandys and had a cottage with a garden. There is a mistake in the parish register on the baptism of Joseph. It is entered as William in error. It is also confusing as William was not baptised until he was three either. I think that they worked for John Nind, as he was the tenant who lived at the Manor House in Wickhamford. After John Nind died his widow went to live at Beckford and Jesse Tomlinson went there to work. Harriet worked firstly as a gloveress and then a dressmaker. She is still unmarried and working on the 1901 Census but living in Evesham. Joseph Tomlinson married Jane (maybe in Aston) and returned to Badsey and had two children baptised there before moving to Edgebaston.

Thomas Tomlinson died on 17.7.1873 and was buried at Wickhamford on 21.7.1873 aged 74.

Judith was buried at Wickhamford on 1.12.1888 aged 87.

THOMAS HALL was baptised at Dumbleton, Gloucestershire on 17.8.1817

He married MARTHA MILLER at Lenchwick, Worcestershire on 22.7.1838.

Martha Miller was born about 1814 in Poynington, Somerset. Her parents were Abraham & Jane Miller, her father was a labourer. (Martha has a daughter, Eliza, when she was 19 and still in Poynington). They lived at Dumbleton, Aston Sommerville and then Badsey. Thomas Hall was a shoemaker. Martha was a gloveress.

Children

Charles Hall 1839 – 1911 born at Dumbleton

Louisa Hall 14.12.1840 Dumbleton – 24.3.1933 Great Bowden. (Married William Tomlinson)

Elizabeth Frances Hall 1843 Ashton Sommerville

Theodore James Hall 1846 – 1923 Badsey

Rachel Whitfield Hall 1848 Badsey – (Named after her Aunt Rachel who married Samuel Whitfield at Dumbleton on 1.5.1848)

Owen Joseph Hall 1849 – 1899 Badsey

Thomas Hall 1852 – 1852 Badsey

Martha was buried at Badsey on 17.7.1852. Their son, Thomas, was baptised on the day after her burial.

I think Thomas Hall died in the September Quarter 1907 aged 91 in the Evesham District but haven’t done anything about this as yet.

Generation 6.

WILLIAM TOMLINSON

Born 16.3.1843 at Wickhamford.

Married Louisa Hall at Badsey on 20.11.1864

Louisa Hall was born on 14.12.1840 at Dumbleton, the daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth Hall. She was also known as Lucy.

Children

Anne Elizabeth Tomlinson born 6.10.1867 at Shenstone, Staffordshire.

Harriet Tomlinson born 1.6.1867 at Shenstone, Staffordshire.

Thomas Theodore Tomlinson born 15.1.1869 at Bonehill, Tamworth, Staffordshire.

Joseph William Simpson Tomlinson born 12.2.1871 at Bonehill, Tamworth, Staffordshire.

David Tomlinson born 7.11.1873 at Wolverton Hill, Stoulton, Worcestershire.

Edith Ellen Tomlinson born 4.3.1876 at Hallow, Worcestershire.

Arthur Jesse Tomlinson born 3.12.1878 at Hallow, Worcestershire.

Florence Annie Tomlinson born 19.8.1882 at Hallow, Worcestershire.

Bertie James Tomlinson born 4.1.1886 at Foxton, Leicestershire.

William worked as a groom and gardener until the move to Hallow when he was a labourer. In about 1884 they moved to Foxton, Leicestershire when William started working as a stoker at the gas works in Market Harborough. About 1888 they moved to Great Bowden and remained there. This was more convenient as the Gas Works were just along the road from their home. We had birth certificates for the children as the first was baptised at Shenstone. Six more were baptised at Foxton on the same day. Bertie who was born there does not seem to have been baptised there though. Harriet never seemed to have been baptised either anywhere. Edith Ellen did get baptised at hallow and again at Foxton.

After William retired from the Gas Works he tended the churchyard.

William Tomlinson died on 14.11.1930 at Great Bowden and is buried in the cemetery there.

Louisa died on 24.3.1933 and is buried next to her husband.

Generation 7

DAVID TOMLINSON was born on 7.11.1873 at Wolverton Hill, Stoulton, Worcestershire. He was baptised at Foxton, Leicestershire on 24.9.1884.

He married EMILY MILLS at Oundle, Northamptonshire on 7.9.1898.

Emily Mills was born on 29.1.1874 at Ashton Wold, a hamlet just outside Oundle, Northamptonshire.

Children

Harold 1.3.1899 – 23.7.1981.

Gladys May 15.3.1900 – 21.2. 1989.

George Ernest 21.10.1901 – 10.3.1985.

Winifred Mabel 4.10.1903 – 10.10.1999.

Douglas 15.6.1905 – 7.1.1977.

Dorothy Maud 5.4.1907 – 23.4.1986.

Reginald 17.7.1909 – 18.11.1990.

Robert John 3.6.1911 – 20.6.1993.

Joan Emily 2.6.1913 – 10.4.1914.

David Tomlinson lived at Great Bowden, Leicestershire until about 1936. He was a groom for John Henry Stokes who was a famous horse dealer and breeder. After John Henry Stokes died David worked as a gardener for his widow. The he moved to Lubenham, Leicestershire and worked as a stud groom for Rev. Graham Dilley (the hunting parson). Then he retired and moved back into Great Bowden. He also looked after the churchyard.

David died on 30.12.18963 at Market Harborough Cottage Hospital.

Emily died on 22.7.1959 at Oakham Cottage Hospital.

They are also both buried at Great Bowden Cemetery.

I hope that I have got most of this right. I had a trip to Gloucester Records Office this July to look at Dumbleton Parish Records. They only start in 1758, as the rest were lost. There are bits of Bishops Transcripts.

I have had two trips to Worcester (2001 & 2002) to look at Wickhamford Records and copied lots of things from Badsey. I went on a Worcester Shopping Trip so only got about 4 hours each time.

I have looked at The Badsey site and the IGI for a lot of the rest.
